A private driver in Geneva at a glance
Geneva is a small city with a world-sized address book. Within a few kilometres, it brings together the United Nations and the international organisations, private banks and trading houses, watchmakers, luxury hotels on the lake, an international airport and a historic old town. Its visitors often have dense programmes and little time, and many of them prefer a car with chauffeur to taxis or public transport.
Geneva Transfer Booking is based in Geneva: our chauffeurs drive here every day and know the city's streets, its traffic and its addresses. We offer transfers, hourly bookings and long-term service throughout the canton of Geneva and beyond, 24 hours a day.
Geneva in a few words
Geneva lies at the south-western tip of Lake Geneva, where the Rhône leaves the lake, almost surrounded by France. It is a French-speaking city of about 200,000 inhabitants, at the heart of a cross-border region of about a million people. Known as the city of Calvin, the Red Cross and peace, it is home to the European headquarters of the United Nations and to a large international community, which makes it one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.
Geneva's districts
- The Old Town, on the hill, around St Pierre Cathedral, with antique shops, galleries and the Place du Bourg-de-Four.
- The Rues Basses and the Rue du Rhône, the shopping streets, with watchmakers and jewellers.
- The Pâquis, on the right bank, with its lively streets and its lakeside baths.
- The Eaux-Vives, on the left bank, with the Parc La Grange and its rose garden.
- Plainpalais, with the university, the museums and the flea market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Carouge, a small town with an Italian feel, its squares and its artisans.
- Cologny, on the hills above the lake, with villas and a famous view over the city.
- The international district, near the Palais des Nations and the airport.
Getting around Geneva
Geneva has an excellent tram and bus network, but driving and parking in the centre are not always easy: parking spaces are rare and expensive, some streets of the Old Town and the centre are restricted, and traffic is dense at rush hour, especially on the bridges and around the lake. Major conferences and summits regularly close streets in the international district. A chauffeur removes these concerns: you are dropped at the door and collected at the exit.

When to come to Geneva
Geneva is busy all year. Spring brings the great watch fair at Palexpo and the international conferences. Summer is the season of the lake, swimming at the Bains des Pâquis, boat trips and terraces. Autumn brings conferences, the grape harvest in the Geneva countryside and the colours of the parks. In December, the Escalade festival celebrates the city's resistance to a night attack in 1602, with a procession in historical costumes and chocolate cauldrons broken in every family.
At the table
Geneva's restaurants reflect its international population: cuisines from every country, alongside Geneva specialities such as longeole, a sausage flavoured with fennel, cardon gratin, perch fillets from the lake and the wines of the Geneva countryside, one of the largest wine-growing cantons of Switzerland.
