Basel-Mulhouse EuroAirport at a glance
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is one of the very few airports in the world shared by two countries. It stands on French soil, near the border with Switzerland and Germany, and is run jointly by France and Switzerland. It serves three cities in three countries: Basel in Switzerland, Mulhouse in France and Freiburg in Germany.
For travellers based in Geneva or the Lake Geneva region, EuroAirport is a useful alternative: different destinations and airlines, sometimes better fares or schedules, and a backup when Geneva flights are full, cancelled or diverted. Geneva Transfer Booking drives you between Geneva and EuroAirport in both directions, door to door.
A binational airport: the Swiss and French sectors
EuroAirport has a Swiss sector and a French sector. Inside the terminal, after landing, passengers choose their exit: the Swiss side, connected to Basel by a customs road that leads directly into Switzerland, or the French side, towards Mulhouse and France.
When coming from Geneva, your chauffeur normally uses the Swiss sector, reached by the customs road from Basel without passing through France. Tell us when booking which side you will use, so your chauffeur waits in the right place. Each passenger should carry a valid passport or identity card, as for any flight.
The route between Geneva and EuroAirport
The trip covers about 260 kilometres. Google calculates about two hours and three quarters without traffic. The motorway follows Lake Geneva to Lausanne, then crosses the Swiss Plateau and the Jura region to Basel and the airport. Traffic can be heavy around Lausanne and Basel at rush hour. Your chauffeur plans the departure with a comfortable margin and can stop for a short break on the way.
When travellers choose EuroAirport
- A destination or an airline that does not fly from Geneva, or a better schedule.
- Full or expensive flights from Geneva during the holidays.
- A diverted or cancelled flight: when Geneva is closed by fog or snow, some flights are diverted to Basel, and passengers need to get back to Geneva.
- A stay in Basel, for Art Basel in June, for the pharmaceutical and chemical companies of the city, or for a visit to its museums.
- A trip to Alsace or the Black Forest, after landing in Basel.
How the transfer works
For a departure from Geneva, your chauffeur collects you at your address with a margin that takes into account traffic and check-in. We usually recommend arriving at the airport two hours before a European flight and three hours before a long-haul flight, unless your airline advises otherwise.
For an arrival at EuroAirport, give us your flight number: your chauffeur follows the landing time, waits in the arrivals hall of the agreed sector with a sign showing your name, helps with your luggage and drives you to Geneva or your destination.
Basel, a city worth a stop
Basel, on the Rhine, is a city of art and culture. Its old town with the red sandstone cathedral and the town hall, the Kunstmuseum, the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, the Vitra Design Museum just across the German border, and the summer swims in the Rhine make it worth a visit. Every June, Art Basel, one of the world's leading contemporary art fairs, brings collectors from all over the world. If you have time before or after your flight, we can include a stop in Basel; tell us when booking.
