Courchevel at a glance
Courchevel is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world. It sits at the heart of Les 3 Vallées, often described as the largest linked ski area in the world, and is known for its ski-in, ski-out design, its luxury chalets and palace hotels, its fine restaurants and its impeccably groomed slopes. The resort is spread over several villages at different altitudes, each with its own character.
For Geneva Transfer Booking, Courchevel is a major winter destination from Geneva Airport, for families, groups of friends and private clients, often with a lot of luggage and tight arrival times.
A short history
Unlike the old mountain villages, Courchevel was designed for skiing. It was created just after the Second World War, in 1946, on the pastures above the Saint-Bon valley. Its planners imagined a resort where skiers could leave their door on skis and return the same way, a new idea at the time. Over the decades, Courchevel 1850 became a synonym of Alpine luxury. In 1992, the ski jumps of Le Praz were used for the Albertville Winter Olympics.
The villages of Courchevel
- Courchevel 1850, the best-known level, with palace hotels, luxury boutiques and the altiport.
- Courchevel Moriond (1650), sunnier and more relaxed.
- Courchevel Village (1550), quiet and family-friendly.
- Courchevel Le Praz (1300), an old village in the forest, with the Olympic ski jumps.
- La Tania, a neighbouring resort linked to the same slopes.

When to come
The season usually runs from early December to mid-April. The Christmas and New Year period, as well as the February holidays, are the busiest. January and March offer good snow and quieter slopes. In summer, Courchevel welcomes hikers and mountain bikers, with some hotels open.
From Geneva Airport to Courchevel: the route
The trip covers about 180 kilometres. Google calculates about two hours and ten minutes without traffic. The route crosses into France, passes Annecy or Chambéry to Albertville, then follows the Tarentaise valley to Moûtiers, before climbing the mountain road to the resort.
On winter Saturdays, when holidaymakers change over, the Tarentaise valley is known for heavy traffic, especially around Moûtiers. Travel times can be much longer than usual. We plan the departure time with you and adapt the route when possible. Our vehicles run on winter tyres and carry chains.
The border and formalities
