Why Choose a Private Chauffeur for the Geneva–Zurich Journey?
The Geneva–Zurich route is one of Switzerland's busiest economic corridors. Crowded trains, connections, luggage management in packed corridors during peak hours: rail transport presents significant constraints for business travellers and VIP clients. With Geneva Transfer Booking, you benefit from an exclusive, premium door-to-door Geneva–Zurich service:
Zurich at a glance
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and its economic heart, at the northern end of Lake Zurich, with the Alps visible on clear days. It is home to banks, insurance companies, the Swiss stock exchange, international firms and the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). But Zurich is also a city of culture and leisure: a medieval old town on both banks of the Limmat, museums, galleries, lakeside baths and a lively nightlife.
For Geneva Transfer Booking, Zurich is a regular destination from Geneva for business travellers, financial roadshows, families moving between the two cities, and visitors who combine both. For flights, our separate Zurich Airport transfer covers the trip to the airport in Kloten.
A short history
Zurich was a Roman customs post, then a medieval trading town that joined the Swiss Confederation in 1351. In the 16th century, the reformer Huldrych Zwingli, preaching at the Grossmünster, made Zurich one of the centres of the Protestant Reformation. In the 19th century, the city became an industrial and financial centre, with the founding of the Federal Polytechnic, later ETH Zurich, where Albert Einstein studied. Today Zurich regularly ranks among the cities with the highest quality of life in the world.
When to come
Zurich is busy all year. In April, the Sechseläuten spring festival ends with the burning of the Böögg, a snowman figure whose explosion is said to predict the summer. In summer, the lake and river baths are full, and the Street Parade in August brings a huge techno parade along the lake. Autumn and winter are the season of museums, concerts and the Christmas markets, including one inside the main station.
From Geneva to Zurich: the route
The trip covers about 280 kilometres. Google calculates about three hours without traffic. The motorway follows Lake Geneva to Lausanne, crosses the Swiss Plateau past Yverdon, Murten and Bern, then continues past Aarau to Zurich. The whole route is in Switzerland: no border to cross.
Traffic can be heavy around Lausanne, Bern and Zurich at rush hour and on Friday afternoons. Your chauffeur plans the departure with a comfortable margin, and a short break on the way if you wish.
Car or train?
Frequent direct trains link Geneva and Zurich in under three hours, a good option for a traveller with light luggage going from station to station. A private car makes the difference:
- Door to door, from your home or office in Geneva to your meeting or hotel in Zurich.
- With luggage, children or equipment.
- For roadshows, with several meetings in Zurich and perhaps Bern or Basel on the same day.
- For working in private, with calls that cannot be made on a train.
What to see in Zurich
- The old town, the Niederdorf and the Lindenhof, with a view over the Limmat.
- The Grossmünster, Zwingli's church, and the Fraumünster, with its stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall.
- The Bahnhofstrasse, one of the most famous shopping streets in the world.
- The Kunsthaus, one of the leading art museums in Switzerland.
- The lake, its promenades and its boats.
- The Uetliberg, Zurich's local mountain, with a view over the city, the lake and the Alps.
At the table
The classic Zurich dish is Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, sliced veal in a cream and mushroom sauce, served with rösti. The city is also known for its chocolatiers and confectioners, and its restaurants range from historic guild houses to contemporary gastronomic tables.
