Verbier at a glance
Verbier sits on a sunny balcony above the Val de Bagnes, in the Swiss canton of Valais, facing the Grand Combin and the Mont Blanc massif. It is the main resort of the 4 Vallées, one of the largest ski areas in Switzerland, and a legendary destination for off-piste and freeride skiing. The village combines wooden chalets, boutique hotels, lively bars and fine restaurants, with an international crowd in winter.
For Geneva Transfer Booking, Verbier is one of the most popular Swiss ski transfers from Geneva Airport, in winter and during the summer festival.
A short history
Verbier was a small farming hamlet until the late 1940s, when the first ski lifts were built. Its sunny exposure, its views and its slopes attracted skiers from Geneva and Lausanne, then from all over the world. The resort grew rapidly in the following decades, and the linking of its slopes with Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon and La Tzoumaz formed the 4 Vallées. Today, Verbier also hosts the final of the Freeride World Tour, the Xtreme Verbier, on the steep face of the Bec des Rosses.
When to come
The ski season usually runs from early December to late April. The Christmas, New Year and February holidays are the busiest. March and April bring spring snow and long sunny days. In July, the Verbier Festival brings classical musicians and audiences from around the world. Summer is also the season of hiking, mountain biking and paragliding.
From Geneva Airport to Verbier: the route
The trip covers about 160 kilometres. Google calculates about two hours without traffic. The motorway follows Lake Geneva to Lausanne and Montreux, continues up the Rhône valley to Martigny, then a road leads into the Val de Bagnes to Le Châble and climbs the bends to Verbier. The whole route is in Switzerland: no border to cross.
On winter weekends, traffic can be heavy, especially on the last climb to the resort. Our vehicles run on winter tyres and carry chains, and our chauffeurs check the road reports before leaving.
Le Châble or Verbier
From Le Châble, at the bottom of the valley, a gondola climbs to Verbier and the slopes. Some guests prefer to be dropped at Le Châble, for example when the road is busy. Most choose to be driven directly to their chalet or hotel in Verbier. Tell us the exact address when booking: some chalets are on steep and narrow roads.
The ski area
The 4 Vallées link Verbier with La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. From Verbier, the lifts climb to Mont Fort, at about 3,300 metres, with a view over the Alps from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn. The off-piste terrain is famous and should always be skied with a qualified mountain guide.

At the table
The Val de Bagnes is the home of raclette: the local cheese is melted in front of a fire and scraped onto the plate, served with potatoes, pickles and onions. Valais wines, such as Fendant (Chasselas), Petite Arvine and Cornalin, accompany the meals. Verbier also has many renowned restaurants and lively bars.
